If you are anything like many people I come across in my life, there are so many things that we define as “urgent”.
What I am often curious about, when I challenge my life coaching clients, is – does it matter.
In other words, if you take the time to really think about those things you have defined as urgent, the tasks, phone calls, emails, meetings, and so on, did they really matter, or did they really matter THAT much… I’ll leave you to ponder that thought as I continue…
My life coaching clients do challenge me back on this concept of urgent vs. does it matter. Often, their argument is that there are a lot of commitments, activities, tasks, communications that do really need to be done within a specific time frame. And yes, I can see their point; in life, both at work and in our personal lives there are a lot of things we do commit to doing that is part of the process of our life, or might I dare to say “part of the game we play”.
But, I still question the essence of urgent vs. does it matter.
Those things we have decided that we do need to do, as part of our life process, are important in our own worlds, and they would need to be done at some point; although there are some things we think we need to do that we never get to do, and then we forget about them, so how much did they really matter… ?!
On the other side of the fence are those things that do matter in life: our health, our families, our friends, kindness, generosity, patience, love, a sense of inner peace maybe.
This blog is simply about remembering how we view what we do in our lives and where we focus our attention and where we give our time.
My tip is: prioritise what truly matters in life, and also allow time for those other tasks that are a part of the process of the life that you’ve chosen to live.
Many of my clients find the time they spend in their life coaching sessions is the ideal space for them to have time to think about what has and does work for them, what makes them winners! They have found that working with their own personal life coach makes it so much easier and clearer for them to focus on themselves in a constructive, practical and useful way.
Life coaching is a very effective and cognitive tool which many professionals find challenging in an inspiring way. Make a choice to develop yourself further at a personal level with a personal development coach, and using your own personal life coach will bring about real and relevant life changes for you.
