Stress As An Enemy
There are many articles that talk about stress as a positive part of our lives, because it can push us to take action, to feel pressurised to do.
And, there is the other angle, where we see stress as an enemy; where it can cause a level of fear, paralysis from taking action, distress, discomfort, dis-ease, and therefore, cause a worse feeling that detracts from the quality of our lives.
My life coaching clients often bring up the issue of stress in their lives as a negative component that they would like to be less impacted by, if that were possible and I believe we can be less affected by stress.
Stress is partially an interpretation of what we are experiencing in our lives and can be linked to a set of beliefs that cause us to feel worried or uncomfortable in some way.
If this is the case, then you may find this tip useful, as a starting point at least:
Look at the matter that is causing you a level of stress that is uncomfortable and challenge yourself to look at this matter from a different point of view. Now I am aware that many people would automatically react to this by saying they could not do it, and I would suggest that you imagine this is a game, and to win the game you need to come up with an alternative way of viewing this thing that is currently being interpreted as “stressful”.
It really is very simple, since there is nothing for you to do; you only need to activate your mind, to think about the possibilities.
This is even easier to do with another person, and yet we can do this on our own too; it depends on how important it is to you to find a simple way to change the stress you feel… sometimes we “like” or we are “attached” to definining ourselves and our lives as “full of stress”.
As a life coach, I challenge you to do differently, to make a simple change that can have a long-term positive impact on your life; if you want to experience a different outcome, such as less stress, you need to do something different to make this happen.
Many of my clients find the time they spend in their life coaching sessions is the ideal space for them to have time to think about what has and does work for them, what makes them winners! They have found that working with their own personal life coach makes it so much easier and clearer for them to focus on themselves in a constructive, practical and useful way.
