The amazing results of clearing performance anxiety before exams!
I am usually very nervous when it’s exam time. On the actual day of my exam my heart beat increases terribly; I shake and am much stressed.
It usually takes me about ten minutes to relax from the moment I sit in the examination room. However, the whole exam experience this year has been totally different from the past three years.
It all started when talking to Natalie about my anxiety of exams; she suggested I try hypnosis to relax myself and be more confident about my knowledge.
I already had some knowledge about the positive effects of hypnosis, despite the fact I had never tried it out before and found the idea very exciting.
I thought it was a great opportunity and decided that I would have a go.
The only thing I remember from the first session as well as the other two that followed was the first few minutes and then the very last few minutes when Natalie said “Three… two… one, and open your eyes”.
The whole session lasted about thirty minutes. I then stood up, felt very relaxed and ready to go back to work.
I only realised that something was different for me the night before the exam. I was unusually relaxed and calm. I fell asleep like any other normal day. And even more strange was the following morning when I woke up. The exam was at 2:00 pm. The module was very challenging and there was lots of pressure not only to pass the exam but to get a good grade as it would be decisive for my final classification.
In the past, my friends and I have always spent the final morning of the exam revising until the very last minute and being worried sick.
Well that morning was different and I could not believe myself but I was calm and totally relaxed as I would be on a regular day. I did not feel the need to revise at all because I knew everything I was supposed to know. And while I was having my morning shower and getting dress I was testing my knowledge by asking myself questions on the different topics. Well, I knew all the answers and I felt almost an expert in the subject.
It is not that my knowledge was coming from nowhere; I really had studied long and hard during the semester. However, we tend to believe under stress and panic that we do not know things even though we know them or remember them.
That feeling of relaxation stayed with me for the whole duration of the exam.
The exam went really well. I was so impressed by the way I had approached that exam after the hypnotherapy with Natalie that I decided to have a hypnotherapy session for the other two exams that semester. I had the same wonderful experience for each of them too.
When the results came up I was really nervous but this lasted only few minutes because soon I was screaming of happiness because I obtained superb results. I actually achieved more than I thought I could!
