London Life Coach Natalie Dee Completes the 5K Challenge
Sunday 2nd October came sooner than I could have imagined.
After a very hot Saturday, and another forecast for a very hot day in London, I wondered what it would be like to run in the strong and hot sunshine at 11 o’clock in the morning.
We arrived at the Big Fun Run in Victoria Park nice and early, to make sure we had our bearings before it all began, and sought out shelter from the heat as quickly as we could; it was definitely very hot, not ideal for my first 5K run!
After a fun and organised group warm up, I found myself at the very front of the race start line; there didn’t seem to be that many runners, maybe around 1,500 or so, and it didn’t take long for many of them to overtake me!
That was fine; I was doing the race for me; it was my own challenge to achieve something that I’d never achieved before and would have said, in the past, that I couldn’t do!
Well 35:54 minutes later I’d completed my first ever 5K run!! And boy was I out of breath and ever-so-pleased and proud of myself!!
I won’t say it was “easy” and I will say it was possible and do-able, despite the heat. And most of all, I will say that I’m glad that I did it!!
And, it just shows, we can do more, so much more than we think we can do, we just need to want to do it and set our minds to it.
I wonder what you’d like to do, to achieve, that would give you a wonderful sense of achievement, of “I can do it” and be proud of yourself?
Time to think of my challenge for next year… I’m open to ideas…
