Relationships: You’re Not the Only One
Both men and women come to me with various relationship questions. This week the issue was that my client was unsure how much longer she should wait for her boyfriend to propose. It was something she had discussed with him regularly in the past year. He said he wanted to marry her, but he wasn’t ready yet.
Having worked out what she loved about him and why she wanted to be with him, she was also very clear that she wanted to stay with him and wasn’t willing to take the risk of an ultimatum and him possibly walking away. She had spent a lot of time obsessing about this, both on her own and with her friends, and was pressurising the boyfriend daily. But it was only when she said this out loud that she realised how difficult this might be for him as well as for her.
This new awareness brought about a decision: she would take her foot off the pedal, enjoy the relationship and re-assess the situation at a later stage.
Talking through your thoughts and dilemmas in a completely non-judgemental space can often be very helpful.
