Managing and Changing Self-Doubt – The 3 C’s
Whether my life coaching clients are students or professionals, self-doubt is a common feeling that many people I meet in the life coaching environment, tend to have an issue with more often than is comfortable.
When we feel self-doubt, sometimes we interpret this as a form of lack of self-confidence or self-esteem; this only increases our feeling not too good about ourselves.
So what can you do to manage and change feelings and thoughts of self-doubt?
Compartmentalising the area you find yourself feeling self-doubt can help to minimise it; this allows you to be realistic about it being in a specific area rather than in every part of your life.
Challenging yourself about how true, how validated the self-doubt thought or feeling is, by finding evidence for and against, can help you see that maybe it is less real or prominent than you thought it was.
Changing your thoughts, creating a new interpretation of the event that has until now given rise to that self-doubt feeling, looking at it from a different perspective, may enable you to reduce the intensity of that feeling.
Many of my clients find the time they spend in their life coaching sessions is the ideal space for them to have time to work through the 3 Cs – compartmentalise, challenge and change; they have found that working with their own personal life coach makes it so much easier and clearer for them to focus on themselves in a constructive, practical and useful way.
