Relationships: To Settle or Not To Settle?
Ever walked away from a relationship, looked back months later and said to yourself: “I’m so glad I didn’t settle for him/her, I can now see it wasn’t right for me.”
People do “settle” in relationships and then they “put up” with what they have, never quite happy but never doing anything about it.
Often this comes from FEAR; the fear of being alone, of never meeting the right someone, of being left behind while friends settle down.
If you are going to “settle”, commit to making it the best it can be and accept the limitations that exist in the relationship. Rethink your wants, your needs and expectations, and you will be able to turn this into a positive and fulfilling experience for you both.
If you’re not going to settle, stand by your decision; be clear what’s important for you, your values, expectations and dreams and keep working on yourself to bring yourself to a place where, regardless of who you’re with, you are happy and fulfilled from within.
