3 Tips on How to Manage Domestic Abuse
There are times, as a life coach, I come across people, mostly women, who have suffered from domestic abuse; and although there is no one answer that fits all, you may find these 3 tips on how to manage domestic abuse, a useful starting point for you:
- Talk to someone – a professional is best; remember, many women have experienced this at some point in their lives, you are NOT alone! Talking to someone will help you manage your own thoughts, emotions and decisions about this. Talking does not mean you have to leave your partner or make any decisions; it’s simply a starting point, an outlet and gives you the chance to share the burden of what you are going through.
- Know your options – be smart and know what is available to you in the event that you do decide to do something about the domestic abuse. Knowledge will give you the power to make decisions, it will give you choices; it’s a starting point for being aware and prepared.
- Build your self-esteem – this is often the underlying issue with the ability to move on; often women don’t feel they believe in themselves or can manage on their own. This can be overcome by working with appropriate resources – counselling or coaching, and when we believe in ourselves, we know we can do so much more, and alone if necessary.
Be aware, be active and pro-active about the reality of your situation and what you can do. When we know more we can do more and when we have choices we feel more in control of our lives. This is about your life, your happiness, and being the one that makes decisions for you.
Whether you want to use life coaching, you will find it is a very effective and cognitive tool for challenging your thoughts and beliefs in an inspiring way.
