Listening – Do You?

My work demands that I really listen, fully focused and with 100% attention.
And yet all contact with people require the basic communication tool of listening; notice how much you really do listen to others next time you remember
The other evening I was sitting with a friend who I hadn’t seen in a little while and in the usual way, sometimes he spoke and sometimes I spoke…
And sometimes, when I said something he would respond with one of those “Aha’s” that gave the impression that he wasn’t particularly interested in what I was saying; this put me off and I found myself unwilling to share any more thoughts on that subject.
As you can imagine the evening ended early, and I did not rush to arrange to see him again!
Listening is so very important; listening is the foundation of any relationship, whether it be a friendship, romantic partner, business contact or any other.
And yet all contact with people require the basic communication tool of listening; notice how much you really do listen to others next time you remember.
When we listen, it shows that we are interested, that we respect the other person, that we want to hear what they have to say; that makes the other person feel important, that they matter in that moment.
Listening – a simple way to give, to make another person feel good about themselves; anyone can do it, have a go and notice what changes.
All the best,
