Say Goodbye to 2012, Say Goodbye to Criticism
One of the key areas that my life coaching clients bring up in their life coaching sessions is the issue of criticism and judgement.
People find it very demotivating when criticised and judged by others; strangely, they give a lot of value to the words of another, and allow it to have an impact on how they feel about themselves.
So, there are two aspects to this blog:
- The impact of criticism from others, does it really mean anything when ten people may have ten different views about us, which one is right? What happens to your own views of yourself; what causes you to give more meaning to the words and thoughts of other people about you than what you know and believe about yourself; what causes such self-doubt?
- Being critical ourselves; again there is usually a direct link between people who don’t like being criticised and those who give out a lot of criticism, what we dislike in others we also dislike about ourselves, even if we cannot see it in us!
A simple change to this, if you truly want to say goodbye to criticism, is to stop being critical yourself; as you change how you are, you will find that this reflects back on you and either you are criticised less by others, or possibly, you notice it less than before.
Life is about constantly raising the bar, upping our game, doing better than we’ve done before, so why not use the end of this year, the end of 2012, to say goodbye to criticism; stop yourself from those critical thoughts and words towards others and notice in 3 – 4 weeks how less critical and judgemental others are of you in return – it’s not necessarily the same people criticising you, it’s more a reflection of what you’re giving out there that you’re getting back from ‘the universe’, from people around you.
